So you’ve just got a shiny, fresh new HD property video – great! But how do you get the most out of your investment? In this article, we’ll be giving you our top tips on how to get the most out of your HD property video.

When you get your video from us, we’ll send a link so you can download the master file in MP4 format. This file represents an almost-full quality version of your video, with minimal compression. When you’re uploading videos to different platforms, make sure you use this version – if you use an already-compressed version, like one from YouTube, you could see a loss in quality when you send the video to other platforms or re-upload it.

By using the master file when uploading, extra compression is avoided

Below, we’ve got some pointers on making sure your video looks its best when uploading it to some popular listing and social media platforms.

realestate.com.au

For videos to appear on realestate.com.au, they need to be linked from YouTube. We’ll upload your video to YouTube for you, and you can use that link, but a link from your own channel also works. From REA’s help article:

Our system will accept other video links such as Vimeo. However, in order for the video to appear in the photo carousel of a listing, the video must be from YouTube.

Your agency most likely uploads your listings to realestate.com.au through your own bulk listing upload software. Follow the instructions for that software to add links to your listing. If however you are manually uploading your listings to realestate.com.au, this help article from REA may help.

Facebook

Uploading your video to Facebook is pretty simple. Just go to your page, create a new post, and drag-and-drop the master file into the post area. Your HD property video will start uploading straight away.

Adding a video to a Facebook post is as simple as drag and drop

The description you put on your video is just as important as the video itself. Here, you should give a short, succinct description of what it’s about (eg: new property listing) and some interesting information about the property. Remember, people don’t read long posts on social media – make sure you keep the description short and sweet.

While Facebook does technically support hashtags, they generally aren’t appropriate for the platform. We’ll cover using hashtags when you post your video to Twitter.

Twitter

Twitter is a very similar process. Simply compose a tweet and add your HD property video – drag and drop works here too.

Drag and drop works on Twitter too

On Twitter, videos are limited to 2 minutes and 20 seconds max. By default, Twitter may prompt you to trim your full-length HD property video down to just 1 minute, but dragging the handles to either side of the timeline will post the whole video.

Drag the handles to either end to show the whole video on Twitter

When writing a tweet to go with your video, you’ll want to make sure that it’s discoverable. On Twitter, this is done using hashtags. If you don’t already know how to use hashtags, Twitter has a great help article to get you started. Remember that hashtags can’t include spaces or punctuation marks. Here are a few hashtags for real estate videos we recommend:

And as always, feel free to mention us @HDPropertyVideo anytime 😉

Instagram

Instagram works a little differently to other social media platforms. For starters, there’s no officially supported way to upload to Instagram from a desktop or laptop; you’ll need either a phone with Instagram installed or this helpful tutorial from CNET.

What’s more, since Instagram is a much faster-paced platform, and users move through content much more quickly, videos on Instagram are limited to 60 seconds. Chances are, your full-length HD property video doesn’t fit into this 60 seconds slot, and you can’t just trim the start or end (or both!) off, because they’ve got important information you want to send.

Luckily, at HD Property Videos we can create a shortened, 60-second version of your full-length video with all of the important stuff condensed into a shorter, sweeter, more Instagram-friendly version. If you’d like to post your video to Instagram, you can request a 60-second version when you order your video, or if you’d like to shorten a real estate video we’ve already completed for you, simply get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to help you out.

Once you’ve got your 60-second version, download it on your phone (or computer) and tap the ‘+’ icon to create a new post. Then, you’ll be prompted to point Instagram to the video.

Tap the ‘+’ button at the bottom of the screen to add a new post on Instagram

As always, make sure you’re using the master version to get the best quality. Then, add a description. Instagram is similar to Twitter here – you can follow the same steps we mentioned above.

We hope you’ve found all of this useful. As you can see, each platform has its own requirements and best practices. Making sure you follow these will make your posts and videos look the best they can and stand out everywhere they’re shown.
